Our Heroes 2008
A glittering awards dinner attended by celebrities, sports stars and business leaders honouring the people who make Scotland proud and who go to extraordinary lengths to help others.
Once again this year, readers of the Daily Record will nominate candidates and our judging panel will select a short-list of three heroes from each category in areas including armed forces, senior, caring, entertainment and sport.
At the star-studded dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, hosted by Jackie Bird and Tam Cowan, we will reveal the 10 winners and the overall hero for 2008. Guests will enjoy a champagne reception, lavish 3-course meal and live entertainment.
Inspirational past winners from the community are courageous Black Watch soldier Colin Hamilton who despite losing a leg in Kosovo returned to the front line in Iraq and 10 year old Ryan Anderson who saved his twin brother Shane's life by donating his bone marrow.
Past celebrity winners include Edith Bowman, Midge Ure, Andrew Murray, Franz Ferdinand and Hollywood actor Billy Boyd.
